Academics and Accountability

You may think of accountability as the grades or numbers on a report card that your child brings home every few weeks. But, just as your child is evaluated, so too is his or her school and district. Texas has had an accountability system in place for more than 20 years.

A school’s reputation is strongly connected to the accountability rating it receives, and that, in turn, depends on the performance of its students. The Texas Education Agency evaluates public schools and districts under state accountability requirements.

This section will walk you through how curriculum, accountability ratings, and student testing and advancement are interwoven.
